Not News Asia

Fears were growing last night for the future of Hong Kong-based satirical site Net News Asia, after bewildered readers all over the world united to explode in incandescent rage about a lack of updates.

The witty far-left publication had failed to add any new content for four months, leaving some subscribers questioning whether the publisher is just a lazy-arsed expat content with pissing his profits up the wall in Discovery Bay.

"I exploded in incandescent rage over the lack of updates earlier today," said one loyal reader from his new house in the leafy home counties of England. "I noticed it's four months to the day that there  was any new content on the site - and that was some boring shite about a shitty civil liberties walk or something.

"I couldn't make it up! I wouldn't normally read these trendy communist punk rock publications, but I feel morally obliged to follow this one. But the editor clearly treats his readers with contempt."

The trendy Maoist site has been entertaining readers for many years with its original perspective  on life in the Far East, but there are now rumours  that fame and fortune has encouraged the publisher to sell-out.

"It's certainly not as good as it used to be," exploded one reader in incandescent rage from his seedy house behind a cricket club.

"In fact, for the past four months it's been utter shit!"

"I don't know why I bother. I really don't."

We tried to contact the elusive trendy lefty editor, who goes by the name fishthing, but he was unavailable for comment.

As a contact of a friend of an acquaintance of a source said: "He's probably wolfing back vast quantities of expensive  fish or posh vegetables in a high class Central restaurant. That's how much he cares about his readers of Netnewsasia."

Never say not
I couldn't have put it better myself old man. Recognising how our loyal public has been distraught at their lack of updates in recent months, the editorial board at Net News Asia decided to finally do something about it and give the site the update our loyal readers deserve.
So the first thing we set about doing was to upgrade the backend. Bloody hell what a palaver that turned out to be! This site runs on an open source content management system called Joomla, and in theory, it's brilliant - it's easy to manage, free, open source and supported by a community of dedicated experts. But in practice, managing a Joomla site is about as much fun as having one's rectum stitched shut by a blind leper with a length of rusty wire.
The open source community are a lovely bunch of people, and more power to them - who'd dedicate all their spare hours to working for nothing for an audience of unappreciative ingrates such as myself?
Cut a long story short, I upgraded my server a couple of months ago and simply do not have time to get my head around the convoluted documentation and half-arsed helpfiles in order to migrate this site. I'll manage it in the end, honest I will.
No doubt there's a simple and painless solution to our current crisis and we'll have your regular dose of net-based news from the heart of Asia in less time than it would take you to say "No, please, stay away from me with that rusty wire!"
